HSG question

Postby Kari on Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:03 am

I have my HSG scheduled for tomorrow. I had a polyp in my uterus at last u/s in November that she wants to make sure is gone, and possible blocked tube.

Anyway, it's been awhile since my last one, which wasn't bad at all. The instructions for this one say to make sure someone drives me for afterward. I won't be able to do that, so will I be ok?

I don't know...so best guesses are what you get started off with. I would think it would depend on what kind of anesthesia is used. If it's local to the area then you'd be fine once it wore off. Which I don't see how they can do a local for your uterus and company. Maybe an epidural...which has varying degrees of how long before it wears off. If they put you under, then you would probably be too groggy for several hours after and not ok to drive. If they just give you a feel good drug, then you'd be fine once it wore off, however you may feel ok long before you really are.

The other concern would be pain level afterwards. Seems to me that most of the ladies report feeling ok afterwards, just needing to take a Tylenol or Advil beforehand, but a few have reported feeling quite a bit of pain. That probably depends on whether or not the tube is blocked and how difficult/easy it is to unblock the tube. Plus if they have to pump your abdomen full of gas for the procedure you could feel very uncomfortable. So that's it until someone who's been through one stops by to offer real insight.

Good luck...hopefully you'll be one of those who gets to report a BFP the following cycle.

Kari, I've had three HSGs and one office hysteroscopy and driven afterwards without concern. I suppose that means mine were all local anesthesia if any.

Fingers crossed that you get the "all clear"!

Went in yesterday and it was a smooth sail (except for maneuvering around San Francisco, of course
The assistant and radiologist were extremely warm and kind and skilled. It was a very good experience as far as these things can go.

Everything looks great. You'd think I'd be happy. I'm actually in quite a funk today as I am just so frustrated that there's not a problem I can fix.

Anyway, DH SA is in 2.5 weeks and we'll see what happens there

Yea! "All clear!" That is a good thing.

Although I totally get what you mean about "then what is it!"

You're counting half weeks until SA? :winkwinky: You do have at least one eye on it.

You and DH are on a good path! Natural sticky BFP or treatment ... you're moving forward.

Hugs,

Yes...it is a good thing that all looks great. But very natural to be a little bothered by the lack of relief that you would have had if there had be the ah ha moment of finding the answer. It means that you continue to feel a little (or a lot) lost in limbo land...however the good news is that you have a plan. And seems to me that you were feeling this same frustration ttcing before...and look how wonderful that turned out despite the too long journey that was. So like Sharon said...moving forward and looking forward to the day you can again say...finally.

Yes, things will all work out one way or another. And it will be worth it.

I am doing better today. Sometimes we just need some processing time.

And it definitely is good that things look so goo inside m :winkwinky:

Glad they didn't find anything unfixable but sorry you are still in the dark with all this. I know that feeling.

Hope you get some answers soon or even better a BFP.
